sugar danger

Sugar is found in so many foods it is hard to believe that although  so sweet in the  mouth it is so unhealthy. Following is a long list of reasons of why it should be used sparingly.  Processed foods are de-natured and lack the balance that would retain a better nutritional value.

With all the above in formation what should we do to improve our health? Sugar is every where but we need to read all labels and try our best to eat as little sugar as possible. Do not turn to chemical sweeteners as they are toxic and in the case of aspartame it will cause you to gain weight.

Sugar in Any Form is Unhealthy

Several years ago, I learned that grain and sugar carbohydrates (actually foods that are white) are unhealthy and we can become obese from these products (we also have to add corn into this because it is a grain - not a vegetable).

There several reasons grains are unhealthy. The first and the worst are processed foods. Industrial food manufacturers strip all the nutrition from grains, fortify with chemical vitamins (that our bodies can't use), and then bake or extrude into a 'food'. They also add sugar, corn syrup, and other chemicals.

Extruding maybe the worst because the high pressure and high heat destroys everything - including the artificial vitamins and the minerals (This is called fortification). This is the reason children should never have cold cereal - there is ZERO nutrition in cereal + lots of sugar is added to entice our children into eating this junk food.

Breads are bad for the same reasons - sugars, fortified vitamins, and non absorbable minerals are put into the mix. White bread being bad is not new news, but the population is mislead because they think whole wheat bread is ok. We must read labels. Whole wheat bread is nothing more than a few chemicals to influence the color and taste.

If you choose to eat organic whole wheat non chemical breads you still must consider several things. Whole wheat organic with molasses (this is less sugar - not as concentrated - plus real trace minerals) is much healthier but these grains still break down to sugars.

We do not have the space to discuss the organophosphates - herbicides and pesticides - in this article but please remember that unless what you eat is organic it will have these toxic chemicals.

As you read the rest of this article remember that Dr Otto Warburg's work discovered that cancer loves sugar and there is more than a casual relationship between the two entities. Also look at Dr Appleton's 146 reasons why sugar is unhealthy.

Also be advised that drug corporations, medicine, and our government do not want you to know what we are discussing. There will never be a cure for cancer and heart disease - in fact there isn't a cure for anything - just treatment until you die. Our economy is based on no one ever getting well or off medications.

If there was a magical cure for cancer and heart disease announced today, our economy would tank in a matter of days.

Social Security is in trouble but if everyone lived and extra 5 to 10 years or more, SS would be in even worse shape than it's present prospects with the baby boomers retirements approaching.

We can be healthier, and less obese. Read my e-book on eating healthy, lose weight, and remember SUGAR IS BAD for you and me.

Every doctor learned back in medical school all about Otto Warburg's discovery; because way back in the thirties Otto discovered the main biochemical cause of cancer, or what differentiates a cancer cell from a normal, healthy cell. This discovery was  so big that Otto Warburg was awarded the Nobel Prize.

Cancer has only one prime cause. It is the replacement of normal oxygen respiration of the body's cells by an anaerobic [i.e., oxygen-deficient] cell respiration. -Dr. Otto Warburg

About The Author

Dr Bob the Health Builder

Robert D Bard, OD, FAAO

I attended West Virginia University and graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Doctor of Optometry degree.

As a health professional I was always interested in disease prevention but found the medical model - drug companies and doctors - unacceptable. The medical model towards disease is that they want us - the people - to contract disease and they will prevent us from dieing as long as we continue to take their drugs for the rest of our lives. This is their idea of preventive medicine. The population expects prevention to prevent disease before we get sick.

I became overweight and like most people blamed it on me and my eating habits, but I knew that diets and potions on TV DO NOT WORK and therefore put off doing anything until I stumbled across a solution.

In 1999 I began itching and it got worse almost by the day. I started taking antihistamines to reduce the itching and over a 10 month time period visited 4 dermatologists. The first 3 doctors miss diagnosed my problem. The forth discovered the cause but I had to use a pesticide all over my body to correct the condition - I know this seems strange but I had an infestation of Norwegian mites under my skin (I didn't even know that mites had a pedigree much less a country of origin).

When I used the pesticide to kill the mites I swelled up like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. With this ordeal I gained even more weight and ended up looking like Porky the Pig. I also lost my sense of taste because of all the antihistamines.

In 2002 I did some consulting work for a supplement company and they gave me a gift book by Sherry Rogers, MD. At the same time I had a patient in my office that sensitive to all chemicals including the chemicals from a carpet that was 6 months old and from my cologne. He had to wear a mask filled with carbon just to get through a basic eye examination. After quizzing him about his condition I discovered that over 6 million people in the US can't function normally because of toxic chemicals - that means holding down jobs and leading a normal life.

Because of this patient I began to investigate toxic chemicals and how they affect people, particularly my health, my taste, and weight problems. With this information I have lost 70 pounds, gone from a jean size of 50 to 40. I feel better, look better, and my big belly that used to catch food is almost gone. (I no longer catch food on my stomach)

I have discovered that the public is one big toxic chemical experiment by industrial food manufactures, chemical companies that control farm chemicals with Genetically Engineered crops, drug companies and companies that want to dump their waste products without protecting the public.

There are some really good people that write books and educate people about health issues, economic issues, environmental issues, food problems but all these people specialize in certain areas. My job as I see it is to be a reporter and filter the important information to my subscribers.

I have also been a farmer for years and one of my discoveries is that our diseased health economy starts with toxic chemicals and crop land.

Unhealthy Soil = Unhealthy Plants and Animals = Unhealthy People

I also think it is terrible that when people retire at the age of 65 that 97% are in poverty in this nation. I believe that I can help people make extra money in retirement through my experience on eBay and other sources of information. I have a free newsletter that discusses health issues and money issues to help people.

Managing Pain as a Method of First Resort, Not Last

neuropathy pain

Read about minimally invasive treatment options for treating pain and avoiding costly major surgery, lengthy recovery times and the risks of infection or debilitating complications.

In treating acute or chronic pain, it has long been accepted that physicians had two basic options to alleviate suffering: surgery or pain medication. Now there is a third option--pain alleviating, non-invasive pain management procedures used as the method of first resort, not last.

Creative, innovative solutions to previously persistent painful disorders are increasingly making surgery unnecessary. Pain management includes pain alleviating treatment for back pain, neck pain, nerve pain, work related injuries, cancer related pain, traumatic insult, Sciatica (compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve), Spinal Stenosis (build-up of bone in the spinal cavity), Spinal Cord Injuries, Post Stroke Pain, Shingles, Herniated Disks and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

Pioneering pain management techniques performed by Board Certified Pain Management physicians include highly specific injection procedures eliminating pain at its source by isolating the nerve ending to the painful spot. The breakthrough process numbs or freezes the nerve and keeps it numb for up to a year. Benefits include avoiding costly major surgery, lengthy recovery times and the risks of infection or debilitating complications.

Who experiences pain?

According to the American Chronic Pain Association, pain affects 86 million Americans, causing losses to US business and industry of $90 billion. Back pain is the leading cause of disability in Americans under 45 years old, and more than 26 million Americans  between the ages of 20 and 64 will have back pain during their lifetime. Many back pain problems occur following injury, strain and accidents causing fractures, lumbar muscle strains and ruptured/herniated discs.

Other causes of pain include degenerative changes caused by the normal aging process. The US Census bureau reported 78.2 million Baby Boomers in 2005, (nearly a quarter of the U.S. population). In 2006 there were 7,918 people turning 60 each dayrepresenting 330 every hour. Baby Boomers are an active generationworking longer and playing harder than previous generations. Sports activities, repetitive stress and ambitious weekend projects account for painful conditions and injuries.

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF), osteoporosis is responsible for more than 300,000 bone fractures annually, costing the nation $17 billion. According to the NOF, osteoporosis affects 44 million American men and women age 50 and older, and one in two women and one in four men in this age group will break a bone due to osteoporosis.

Recent advances in technology, new techniques and minimally invasive procedures in interventional pain medicine have eliminated many of the sources of pain, allowing patients to return to a normal level of activity.

What is the non-invasive nature of the treatment?

Over the last twenty years, many chemical and anatomic pain pathways have been identified and studied. The Board Certified pain medicine specialist often performs diagnostic injections, usually with enhanced fluoroscopic guidance. These injections isolate and confirm the source of the patient's pain. Once identified, these painful structures are medically treated.

Medication can be injected at the exact site of the injury or compressive lesion. Epiduroscopy is the insertion of a fiber optic filament through a needle directly into the spine. This is connected to a television monitor to visualize the inside of the spinal canal, spinal cord and spinal nerves. This procedure has been effective in making accurate diagnosis, accomplishing precise injections, cutting of epidural adhesions and scar tissue and the removal of toxins liberated by injured discs.

Injured or painful facet joints can be injected with steroids. If long-term pain relief is not accomplished, these patients are often treated with Radiofrequency rhyzotomies. These Radiofrequency procedures numb the facet joints and eliminate the patient's pain for approximately one year. These are outpatient or office procedures, which often provide immediate pain relief and allow the patient to return home after a 30-45 minute recovery period.

Discogenic pain due to injured and herniated discs is now being treated with new outpatient procedures called an IDET (Intradiscal Electrothermal Treatment) procedure and a Nucleoplasty. A special wire electrode is inserted through a needle into a disc and directed to the affected area of the disc herniation. Once in place, the electrode is heated with Radiofrequency or designed to create an electromagnetic field. This causes cauterization and vaporization of the disc, proliferation and tightening of the protein matrix of the disc, shrinking of small herniations and disc denervation or numbing. The final effect of this process is the relief of pain and the creation of more collagen within the disc.

Rather than simply administering pain medication, Board Certified Pain Management physicians diagnose the sources of pain and provide pain relief through these and other minimally invasive techniques.

glucosamine and diabetes

Glucosamine supplements are a popular remedy for arthritis pain relief, especially for osteoarthritis. Unlike NSAIDs and other anti-inflammatory drugs, the pain relief provided by glucosamine lasts even after a person is no longer taking the supplements. This is because glucosamine helps repair damaged cartilage in joints. Arthritis pain goes away because the problem is fixed, not because inflammation is temporarily suppressed.

There has been some concern that glucosamine might cause insulin resistance and that people with diabetes should not take glucosamine. This concern is because of previous animal and human studies that found 'giving glucosamine can impair insulin's action, which can potentially make [people] diabetic or worsen diabetes.' This is according to Rajaram J. Karne, now of the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. However, the studies that raised this concern injected participants with high doses of glucosamine.  Most people take glucosamine orally, not by injection. Karne and his collaborators in Bethesda, Md, at the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, tested a commonly used dose of oral glucosamine in 20 normal weight and obese adults. The dose they tested was three 500-milligram pills of glucosamine daily or a placebo. Unlike the high doses of injected glucosamine used in previous studies, this oral dose of glucosamine is what is normally recommended by health care professionals and what is most commonly used by folks taking glucosamine supplements. Karne and his colleagues tested each person's insulin sensitivity and the beginning and end of the study. Six weeks of glucosamine didn't make any measurable difference in insulin's action. This study indicates that at least in adults who don't already have diabetes, three 500-milligram glucosamine pills does not effect insulin resistance or cause diabetes. This dose should be safe for those taking it for osteoarthritis pain relief. Diabetes causes musculoskeletal changes that lead to symptoms such as joint pain and stiffness, swelling, nodules under the skin, particularly in the fingers, tight thickened skin, trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, painful shoulders, and severely affected feet. After having had diabetes for several years, joint damage, called diabetic arthropathy can occur.

Both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis share connections with diabetes, although the connections are quite different. Having arthritis does not mean you'll develop diabetes, or vice versa, but taking good care of your self with one might mean staving off or minimizing the other.

If you go above your ideal weight, your lower body joints will feel the burden. As the scale creeps upward, your organs become burdened also. Type 2 diabetes is largely a disease of people who are overweight or obese, and overweight and obesity are big risk factors for knee and hip osteoarthritis. The main fix for both conditions is to lose weight, which will improve each condition. Modest weight loss will alleviate pressure from the lower extremities, helping to ease pain in the hips, knees and feet. Losing just 15 pounds can cut knee pain in half. And losing just 5% to 10% of body weight will reduce blood sugar significantly and can enable some people to taper off insulin and other medications.

Eat regularly and consistently to help your body maintain steady glucose levels. Doing so keeps the body from releasing too much insulin, which is known to make weight loss and fat loss difficult. Try to eat the same amount of food during meals or snacks at the same times every day, and, of course, choose your foods wisely. Then make sure you engage in about 30 minutes of physical activity on as many days of the week is possible to keep your weight down, your joints lubed and your blood sugar normal, not to mention to decrease your risk of heart disease, a top health risk associated with both arthritis and diabetes

Stress and depression can contribute to getting or can aggravate diabetes and arthritis, Depression not only co-occurs with diabetes, but also with other chronic diseases. If you experience symptoms, talk to your doctor about ways to treat depression

Some Advanced Treatments For Diabetes

Natural remedy to treat diabetes found here.

new treatment for diabetesLike obesity, diabetes is now considered by many health experts and professionals as an "epidemic" because more and more people suffer from it. The age ranges of people who become prone to it become younger and younger. And the people who are at risk are those who do not only have diabetes history in their families but also those who have developed the disease over time.

Experts say that people who have a history of diabetes in their bloodlines are the primary set of people who are at risk for this disease. But, they are not the only ones who can suffer from this chronic illness. In fact, almost everyone-especially those who have high glucose content in their blood and unable to use it-is prone to having this disease.

Trends are changing

Before, when you were diagnosed with diabetes, it was synonymous to loss of limbs, total loss of vision or blindness, kidney failure, and worst, early death. But now, this is no longer the case. Because of the trends in modern technology and advances in the medical field through research, many people with diabetes are seeing hope that they will enjoy longer and healthier their lives just like the regular people.

1. Insulin. Since diabetes is caused by lack of supply of insulin among diabetics, more and more people come up with variations with the way insulin can enter the body such as:

- implantable insulin pumps which makes it possible for the blood sugar levels to be measured so the and exact amount of insulin needed is delivered instantly;

- insulin inhalers which can aid the daily injections of insulin by providing instant relief by using rapid-acting insulin which is sprayed and inhaled through the mouth-including its coats, the throat and the tongue to pave the way for insulin to enter the into the bloodstream quickly;

- insulin pill which will use a new type of polymer can help the diabetic get insulin faster because it can allow insulin to get into the person's bloodstream without being destroyed by the digestive system; and

- new insulins which are designed to minimize the regimens and to better control glucose for people including "glargine" which is a basal insulin, the "aspart" which is a very-rapid-acting insulin, and the "75/25 lispro mixture" containing a very-rapid-acting content.

2. Monitoring and tests. These are very important to know how well the diabetic is doing. The new trends when it comes to monitoring and tests include:

- pain free glucose tests which allows the diabetic to monitor their own blood sugar without the excruciating pain of literally sticking their fingers to be able to get blood samples;

Natural supplements that act as pain killers for chronic pains such as back ache, leg pains  and can also offer some diabetic nerve pain relief.

Fish Oils:

For centuries, people have been raving about the benefits of fish oil, which contains heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 has been proven to help lower triglycerides (fats in the blood) and blood pressure, reduce the risk of blood clots, improve the health of arteries, and reduce disease-causing arterial plaque. But recently, scientific research has shown that fish oil has properties that help reduce symptoms and inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis . In fact, a majority of placebo-controlled trials of fish oil in chronic inflammatory diseases have revealed significant benefits, including decreased disease activity and a lowered use of anti-inflammatory drugs Unfortunately, most people's diets today do not include substantial amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. The main dietary sources of EPA are cold water fish such as salmon.

Glucosamine Sulfate:

Glucosamine is a naturally occurring substance normally formed from glucose and found in high concentrations in joint structures. As we age, we lose some of the glucosamine and other substances  in our cartilage. This can lead to the thinning of cartilage and the onset and progression of back problems. It provides the raw material used by the body to make cartilage and connective tissue that, in turn, can help to provide cushioning and lubrication for the back joint. Glucosamine Sulfate has been around for many years Glucosamine has been scientifically proven to reduce joint discomfort, increase lubrication in joints, stimulate cartilage repair, preserve joint space and it has anti-inflammatory actions.

White Willow Bark:

White willow bark is a tree native to Europe and Asia. The name "white willow" comes from the color of the leaves, which are covered with fine white hairs. The use of white willow bark medicinally goes far back. Ancient Egyptians used white willow for inflammation. The Greek physician Hippocrates wrote about white willow's medicinal uses in 5th century B.C. People take white willow bark instead of aspirin because it does not appear to be as irritating to the stomach lining. It may be because the salicin found naturally in white willow bark is only converted to the acid form after it is absorbed by the stomach.

Researchers have also suggested that white willow bark is more effective than aspirin because of other active compounds that are found in the bark but not the drug. Animal research at Cairo University compared a willow bark extract to ASA and found that a willow bark extract was as effective as aspirin in reducing inflammation, even though the salicin content was lower than an equivalent dose of ASA.
